What this product is for
An online partial discharge survey arrives as a report with a colour on it, and the colour drives a six-figure decision about whether to take a substation out of service. Almost nobody who receives one is in a position to audit how it was reached — which sensors, coupled where, in what units, against what noise floor, compared to which baseline, with what left untested. The classification may well be correct; as presented it cannot be checked by a reader, and it is the classification that drives the recommended action. OLPD Report Review — common questions
- Does this tell me whether my equipment has a problem?
- No — and that boundary is enforced, not merely stated. Assessing equipment condition, assigning severity, estimating remaining life, and recommending or discouraging maintenance or outage action are all out of scope, and post-generation validation rejects any finding whose language asserts equipment health or recommends an action. This reviews the report, not the equipment.
- Why would I pay to review a report I already paid for?
- Because the survey provider and the report author are usually the same party, and the report is the basis for what you do next. An independent read of the methodology tells you whether the conclusion is supported, what was not tested, and which questions to put back to the provider before you act on it.
- Do I need to send raw instrument data?
- No — and it would not be read. Ingesting raw instrument files and generating PRPD or trend plots from your data are both out of scope. Submit the survey report as issued to you; that is the document under review.
